Guwahati Hosts the 43rd Abhiruchi Sports Day

The event will kick off with a mass jogging session at the Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex on Thursday, followed by various cultural activities.


Guwahati, Sept 2: The 43rd Abhiruchi Sports Day is set to take place across Assam with a two-day celebration starting Thursday, featuring central events in Guwahati.


The festivities will commence with a mass jogging event at the Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex, followed by cultural programs and additional activities. Notable attendees include Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Biswajit Daimary, actor Jatin Bora, and former international athlete Tayabun Nisha.


September 3 is designated as Sports Day by the Abhiruchi Group to honor the birth anniversary of Bhogeswar Baruah, the first Arjuna awardee from Assam.


During a press conference, organizing committee chairman Balendra Mohan Chakravarty announced that the celebrations will continue on Friday with an Inter-Institution PT and Dance Competition at the Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium.


Additionally, a felicitation ceremony will take place at the indoor stadium on Friday afternoon, recognizing 31 athletes who represented India in various sports over the past year.


The RG Baruah Award will be awarded to sports organizer Kamakhya Saikia, while Padum Chandra Boro will receive the Chidananda Das Award for Coaching. Jatindra Nath Sarma from Chamata will be honored with the Jogesh Sarma Krira Udyogi Award.


Other awardees include Rabindra Chandra Sarma from Barbhag, who will receive the Chandra Nath Chakravarty Physical Education Excellence Award; Adrit Kashyap in yoga, who will be honored with the Gopal Barua Promising Player Award; Aman Yadav from Guwahati, who will receive the RP Barooah Promising Cricketer Award; Rupak Kumar Dutta from Golaghat, who will be recognized with the Sukumar Medhi Sports Organizer Award; and mountaineer Rupamoni Gorh, who will receive the Outstanding Performance Award.


Special recognition will also be given to Panchali Roy, principal of MVM-IV; cricketer Munna Kakati; footballer Santosh Gowami; karate practitioner Guru Govinda Rajkhowa; sports organizer Ranjit Kumar Deka; and weightlifter Alkesh Baruah.
