The CCG Pickleball Challenge 2026, one of the largest events of its kind, is wrapping up this weekend at Hong Kong's D PARK, having commenced on April 3. Over the span of ten days, this tournament, organized by the Chinachem Group, has attracted more than 1,000 players who participated in over 1,200 matches. Set within a mall in Tsuen Wan, the event has transformed a commercial area into a vibrant sports venue, appealing to competitors and spectators alike, with participants ranging from ages five to 64 and representing various skill levels.
On April 11-12, the tournament will culminate in a two-day Pickleball Carnival, shifting the focus from competition to community engagement. This carnival will include workshops, interactive booths, and family-oriented activities, aiming to broaden the sport's appeal beyond just regular players.
This initiative is part of a larger strategy by the Chinachem Group, which has previously hosted community events at D PARK. Last year's Tsuen Wan Games saw participation from over 10,000 individuals, and this year, pickleball was selected for its accessibility. Amy Wu, the Director of Corporate Communications at Chinachem Group, shared insights into this decision, stating, “It combines elements of tennis, table tennis, and badminton, using a lightweight racquet and causing less impact, making it suitable for individuals of all ages, including those who may not exercise regularly.”
Accessibility has been a key focus in the event's planning. D PARK's location near major residential areas with excellent transport links allows local residents to participate without extensive travel. Four indoor courts have been established, and the mall's atrium has been transformed into a spectator-friendly area that encourages passersby to engage with the sport.
“After work, residents can easily join a game; parents can bring their children; and seniors can participate more comfortably, integrating sports into their daily routines,” Wu noted. Having played pickleball for over a year, Wu also highlighted its social advantages, saying, “Sports can spark conversations and help me connect better with my colleagues. We often play pickleball before work and hit the gym during lunch breaks. Sports truly have the power to bring people together.”
Looking ahead, D PARK intends to enhance its pickleball facilities to accommodate the growing interest. The organizers aim not only to host events but also to weave the sport into the community's fabric in Tsuen Wan. “Imagine, years from now, Tsuen Wan residents reminiscing about playing pickleball at D PARK with family, friends, and classmates,” Wu expressed.
With impressive participation rates and consistent foot traffic throughout the week, the CCG Pickleball Challenge 2026 has highlighted the increasing popularity of pickleball in Asia. As the event approaches its conclusion, it has set a standard for integrating sports into urban environments.
