Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws from Davis Cup 2025 Final 8 Due to Injury
Alcaraz's Withdrawal Announcement
Carlos Alcaraz will not participate in the Davis Cup 2025 Final 8 event this week in Italy due to a muscular edema injury. The two-time Wimbledon champion shared this update on Instagram on Tuesday, following his recent achievement of securing the ATP year-end No. 1 title last week. Unfortunately, he will not be able to finish his season with the Spanish team as initially intended.
Alcaraz Expresses Regret Over Missing the Event
"I regret to inform that I will not be able to represent Spain in the Davis Cup in Bologna. I have an edema in the sciatica of my right leg, and my doctors have advised against competing. Playing for Spain is incredibly important to me, and I was looking forward to contributing to our fight for the Saladera. I'm returning home feeling disappointed," Alcaraz stated on Instagram.
Details of the Davis Cup 2025 Final 8
Alcaraz traveled to Bologna, Italy, for the tournament but was unable to recover in time for the Davis Cup 2025 Final 8, which is scheduled from November 18 to 23. This event will feature the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the final.
End of Season for Alcaraz
With his withdrawal, Alcaraz concludes his 2025 season with an impressive record of 71 wins out of 80 matches played. Throughout the year, he triumphed in eight out of the 11 finals he participated in.
The Olympic silver medalist disclosed that he sustained an injury during the championship match against Jannik Sinner at the ATP Finals. Sinner successfully defended his title at the Nitto ATP Finals, defeating Alcaraz with scores of 7-6 (4), 7-5 in a captivating match held at Turin's Inalpi Arena. Sinner's poise against Alcaraz was a standout feature of the contest.
The 22-year-old Alcaraz secured eight titles this year, including victories at the French Open and the US Open. He also claimed ATP Masters 1000 titles in Monte-Carlo, Rome, and Cincinnati.
