Concerns Over Bowling Performance Despite Series Victory

Despite clinching the five-match T20 international series against New Zealand with a 3-2 scoreline, the Indian team's bowlers have raised significant concerns due to their lackluster performance. After winning the first three matches, the team faced defeats in the last two games.

In the final T20 match held in Hamilton, the Indian bowlers failed to defend a respectable total of 191 runs, leading to captain Shreyas Iyer publicly expressing his frustration and criticizing the bowling unit for the first time.

Match Overview and Captain's Remarks

In the match played at Hamilton, India batted first and set a target of 191 runs, which New Zealand chased down effortlessly, scoring 195 runs for the loss of just three wickets in only 18 overs. Following the match, Iyer voiced his displeasure, specifically targeting the bowlers. He stated that given the pitch conditions, a score above 190 should have been defendable, but the bowlers delivered a disappointing performance, which ultimately cost the team the match.

He also acknowledged that the team's fielding standards had dropped significantly and emphasized the urgent need to address these shortcomings moving forward.

Bowling Statistics and Performance Analysis

Throughout the series, the Indian bowlers struggled considerably. Statistics reveal that they conceded 225 runs in the first match, 180 in the second, 198 in the third, and an alarming 259 runs in the fourth T20 match. In the fifth match, they again allowed 195 runs in just 18 overs.

The disparity in bowling performance between the two teams was evident, with only one New Zealand bowler exceeding an economy rate of 10, while most Indian bowlers had rates above that mark.

Individual Bowling Performances

Among the Indian bowlers, Bhuvneshwar Kumar went wicketless, conceding 41 runs in four overs. Sudip Singh gave away 40 runs in four overs, while Prince Yadav allowed 35 runs in three overs, and Varun Chakravarthy leaked 45 runs in four overs. Despite winning the series, the Indian team was left unsatisfied due to these glaring deficiencies in their bowling.
