Toronto [Canada], June 13: The FIFA World Cup 2026 encounter between Bosnia-Herzegovina and Canada concluded in a 1-1 stalemate at BMO Field on Saturday, following a late equalizer from Cyle Larin for the co-hosts.
With this result, both teams secured a point each. Canada is still in search of their inaugural World Cup victory, having participated in seven matches at the pinnacle of international football.
The match kicked off with an early opportunity for Canada in the second minute, as Luc de Fougerolles found himself near the goal post after a scramble. Unfortunately, his close-range attempt did not yield the desired outcome. Bosnia responded quickly, with Memic failing to convert a free kick despite having a clear sight of the goal.
In the 10th minute, Alistair Johnston of Canada received the first yellow card of the match for bringing down Memic.
The deadlock was broken in the 21st minute when Jovo Lukic scored for Bosnia, heading in a corner flicked on by Sead Kolasinac. This marked Bosnia's first World Cup goal since 2014, giving them a 1-0 advantage over the co-hosts.
Jonathan David created several opportunities for Canada but was unable to convert. Bosnia also received a couple of yellow cards towards the end of the first half, which concluded with them in the lead.
Despite dominating possession with 65.8%, making 21 touches in the opponent's box, and taking eight shots, Canada struggled to find the back of the net.
The second half began with Canada looking to equalize, but their penalty appeal was dismissed when Bosnian goalkeeper Vasilj made contact with Oluwaseyi. Replays showed that Vasilj touched the ball before the collision.
As Bosnia appeared to be on course for victory, Cyle Larin reignited the crowd's hopes with a goal in the 79th minute. After some impressive play from Kone, Larin volleyed the ball into the bottom right corner, taking a slight deflection along the way.
The match ended with both teams sharing the spoils, leaving the scoreline unchanged until the final whistle.
