Cameron Green Shines on Return to Cricket with Gloucestershire
Cameron Green's Impressive Comeback
New Delhi [India] April 22: Cameron Green, the Australian batsman and a key player for the ICC World Test Championship Final, has garnered praise from the coach of Gloucestershire following his remarkable return to competitive cricket in England, according to the ICC's official website.
After being sidelined for over six months due to injury, Green made his comeback with Gloucestershire in their four-day match against Kent, which commenced on April 18 in Canterbury. He made an immediate impact upon his return to the field.
Mark Alleyne, the head coach of Gloucestershire, expressed his admiration for Green's influence on the team since his arrival in England, noting that the tall all-rounder is already leaving a significant mark.
“While we appreciate his runs, being an overseas player means contributing to the club in ways beyond just performance,” Alleyne remarked after Gloucestershire's match with Kent ended in a draw, as reported by the ICC.
The 25-year-old showcased his talent by scoring a stylish century in Gloucestershire's first innings, hitting 12 boundaries during his 188-ball innings, as he aims for a spot in the World Test Championship Final against South Africa at Lord's on June 11.
However, Green could not replicate his success in the second innings, where he was dismissed for just three runs.
Mark praised Green's overall impact on the team, emphasizing that his contributions were felt even before his recent century. He noted that the century came at a pivotal moment for the team, solidifying Green's strong start with Gloucestershire.
“Even before the century, he had begun to make a difference in the group, and that 100 has really cemented his start with us, especially at a challenging time,” he added.
Australia boasts several batting options for their top six in the upcoming one-off Test in June, and Green is seen as a potential returnee, despite currently being unable to bowl due to recent surgery addressing a long-standing back injury.
