Bruno Fernandes Stays Loyal to Manchester United

Manchester [UK], December 19: Bruno Fernandes, the captain of Manchester United, has reiterated his dedication to the club, emphasizing a shared ambition to restore its former glory and secure more trophies.

In a recent episode of the 'Rio Ferdinand Presents' podcast, Fernandes discussed his loyalty to Manchester United, revealing that he chose to remain with the team despite receiving two offers to leave. The 31-year-old midfielder, who joined the club in 2020, stated that he would have considered departing if he felt that winning titles was unattainable.

Fernandes remarked, as reported by Sky Sports: "Loyalty in football used to be exemplified by players like [Francesco] Totti at Roma, [Ryan] Giggs at United, and [Paolo] Maldini at Milan. When I arrived at the club, my loyalty was tested during challenging times, and I had opportunities to leave twice."

He continued, "The club expressed their need for me, and I responded by committing to them. My time here hasn't been as trophy-laden as I hoped, but I believe my contributions have been significant. I remained loyal during tough periods, and I hope that my commitment is recognized, especially considering the strong offers I received."

Fernandes acknowledged that he could have pursued a different path, potentially winning more trophies and altering public perception of his career. He stated, "People often judge players based on their trophy count. I chose to stay because I believe we can still achieve success together. If the club's goal wasn't to reclaim its former status, I would have left. However, I know the club aims to return to its winning ways, which aligns with my own aspirations."

Throughout his time at Manchester United, Fernandes has celebrated victories in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, and he has been a runner-up in the UEFA Europa League twice. He has played under six different managers, including Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Erik Ten Hag, and currently, Ruben Amorim, along with interim managers Ralf Rangnick, Michael Carrick, and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Reflecting on his arrival at the club, Fernandes noted the presence of many seasoned players, followed by a transition to a younger squad. He stated, "When I joined, there were experienced players like David [De Gea], Nemanja Matic, and Juan Mata. Paul [Pogba] was already a significant figure, along with Jesse [Lingard] and Marcus Rashford. Now, we have a blend of youth and experience."

He added, "Football has evolved significantly over the years, and the younger players now bring a vibrant energy to the dressing room. I appreciate the current mix of players, as it keeps the atmosphere lively and inclusive, without any hierarchy based on tenure or importance. The energy is fantastic."
