Brock Lesnar's Surprising WWE Return Amid Legal Challenges
Brock Lesnar's Unexpected Comeback
WWE enthusiasts are buzzing about Brock Lesnar's recent return to the ring, especially given the backdrop of ongoing legal issues. His comeback has surprised many, particularly since he is still entangled in a lawsuit that has yet to be resolved. Following the SummerSlam event, new information has emerged regarding when WWE officially cleared him for his return.
In a discussion on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer disclosed that WWE's legal team authorized Lesnar's return approximately four weeks prior to SummerSlam. The rationale behind this decision remains unclear, especially since the legal team had previously prevented his return for several months, likely due to the ongoing Janel Grant lawsuit.
Legal Approval for Lesnar's Comeback
Meltzer noted that WWE seems to believe the case will proceed to arbitration without involving Lesnar, or they might be nearing a settlement that would eliminate his star power as a concern. It's also possible that there has been a shift in perspective among WWE's top executives, facilitating his return.
“The short version of this is that four weeks ago, WWE legal cleared him. As far as why, I don’t know,” Meltzer stated. “Obviously, everything relates to the Janel Grant lawsuit.”
“Either they’re confident that things are going to arbitration and Brock Lesnar’s not a factor at that point, or they’re close to a settlement and then, at that point, Lesnar’s not a factor, or somebody there just had a change of mind, and I don’t know which one of those it is.”
Lesnar's Recent Activities
Brock Lesnar has not competed since his defeat to Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam 2023. He was initially slated to appear at the 2024 Royal Rumble, potentially facing Gunther, but was withdrawn from the event due to his mention in the lawsuit against WWE, Vince McMahon, and John Laurinaitis. Additionally, he was excluded from the WWE 2K24 video game.
During the climactic moments of SummerSlam's second night, Lesnar made a dramatic return, delivering an F-5 to John Cena just before the show concluded, reigniting their rivalry. Cena is expected to address this attack on tonight's episode of Smackdown.
