Security Measures for the Matches
West Bengal's sports minister, Indranil Khan, addressed the security protocols established for the upcoming high-profile friendlies against Brazil and Uruguay (scheduled for October 6) in Kolkata.
He mentioned that advanced technology, similar to that used during the FIFA World Cup, will be implemented to prevent ticket black marketing, with QR-code-based digital ticketing in place.
“In addition, police arrangements have been made. Senior IAS and IPS officers, along with the Police DGP and Chief Secretary, are collaborating to ensure safety. The Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, is personally overseeing the situation,” he stated.
Infrastructure Upgrades and Future Vision
Indranil emphasized the seriousness and expertise involved in the preparations, noting that significant infrastructure improvements are underway. Seating arrangements are being organized to avoid chaos and ticket fraud. Furthermore, two large digital screens will be installed to provide a World Cup-like atmosphere. The turf has also been enhanced to meet international FIFA World Cup standards for this match.
He added that these upgrades are not solely for the upcoming matches but are part of a long-term vision for the football-loving state.
“We envision a future where our players don the 'Men in Blue' jersey at the World Cup. Long-term strategies are being developed, from infrastructure enhancements to nurturing talent through academies. A sports revolution is on the horizon for this state,” he concluded.
