Brazil Triumphs Over India in Kolkata

In a landmark friendly match held at Kolkata's Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday, Brazil showcased their football prowess by defeating India 4-0. The Brazilian squad featured prominent players such as Vinicius Jr., Marquinhos, and Estevao, under the guidance of head coach Carlo Ancelotti, much to the excitement of the local fans.

Initially, India held their ground for the first 27 minutes, with Manvir Singh and Ryan Williams challenging Brazil's defense through effective counter-attacks, as reported by ESPN.

However, Brazil broke the stalemate in the 28th minute when Estevao cut in from the right and delivered a low shot from the edge of the box, which slipped past Indian goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu at the near post.

Just before halftime, Brazil doubled their lead. Estevao set up Pedro with a clever pass from the right, and Pedro's angled shot went through Gurpreet's hands, making it 2-0 in the 42nd minute.

After the break, India displayed more offensive intent and nearly scored. Ryan Williams had a shot cleared off the line, while Manvir sought to create opportunities for the home side.

Brazil extended their advantage in the 58th minute after India lost possession in their defensive zone. Bijoy Varghese's pass was intercepted, allowing Samuel Lino to capitalize and curl a shot into the bottom corner.

Lino added his second goal in injury time, finishing low past the goalkeeper to conclude the match at 4-0 in favor of Brazil.

This match took place during the international break, where Brazil had previously experienced mixed results against Australia, winning one friendly 4-2 and drawing another 1-1.

India also began their international break with a 1-1 draw against Panama last Friday, marking a significant achievement as it was the first time India avoided defeat against a top-50 ranked team.

For Brazil, this international break serves as a chance to regroup following their disappointing round-of-16 exit from the FIFA World Cup earlier this year, where they were eliminated by Norway. Despite their rich football history, Brazil has not lifted the FIFA World Cup trophy since 2002.
