Bhuvneshwar Kumar Makes IPL History
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, a pacer for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has etched his name in the annals of Indian Premier League (IPL) history by becoming the second bowler and the first fast bowler to secure 200 wickets. He accomplished this remarkable feat during the IPL 2026 match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday by dismissing batter Ayush Mhatre.
Record-Breaking Performance
As the second-highest wicket-taker in IPL history, Bhuvneshwar joins fellow Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal in the exclusive 200 wickets club. Currently, Bhuvneshwar has achieved 200 wickets across 192 matches, maintaining an average of 27.25. In comparison, Chahal leads with 224 wickets from 176 matches at an impressive average of 22.68. Following them is Sunil Narine, who has taken 193 wickets in 191 IPL matches.
Milestone Wicket Details
Bhuvneshwar reached the 200-wicket milestone by dismissing Ayush Mhatre during the RCB vs CSK match. He bowled a well-placed delivery outside off stump that rose sharply, causing Mhatre to misjudge his pull shot. The ball popped up off the bat and was easily caught by Rajat Patidar at mid-off.
RCB's Dominant Batting Display
In the IPL 2026 match, the defending champions RCB showcased an impressive batting performance, scoring a formidable 250 runs for the loss of 3 wickets against CSK at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The innings began with solid contributions from Virat Kohli (28 runs off 18 balls) and Phil Salt (46 runs off 30 balls). However, it was the explosive batting from Devdutt Padikkal (50 runs off 29 balls), captain Rajat Patidar (48 not out off 19 balls), and Tim David (70 not out off 25 balls) that propelled RCB to their massive total. RCB accelerated significantly during the middle and death overs, with Padikkal and Patidar building momentum, culminating in an unbeaten partnership of 99 runs between Patidar and David in just 35 balls. David's late innings included eight sixes, contributing to a total of 19 sixes hit by the team throughout the match.
