Bevon Jacobs Eager for Home Ground Debut in T20I Against India
Bevon Jacobs Looks Forward to Home Ground Experience
On October 29, New Zealand cricketer Bevon Jacobs shared his excitement about potentially batting for the first time at his home ground during the fourth T20I against India in Auckland. Reflecting on his memories of watching the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup matches at the same venue, Jacobs expressed his eagerness to perform in front of a home crowd. With New Zealand trailing 3-0 in the series, they are determined to regain their pride in this match. The first two T20Is were tightly contested, but the Kiwis faced a heavy defeat in the third match, where Abhishek Sharma delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 113 runs off just 38 balls in a chase of 199 runs.
Jacobs' Impressive Performance and Career Highlights
Throughout the series, Bevon has emerged as a key player for New Zealand, accumulating 128 runs in three innings, averaging 64.00 with a strike rate of 150.58, including a top score of 58. He expressed his enthusiasm about returning home, hoping for a chance to bat, which he missed in his previous match against South Africa earlier this year. "It's great to be back home. Playing in front of a packed Eden Park crowd is a unique experience. I’ve participated in a few matches here but haven’t had the chance to bat yet. If I get that opportunity, it will be an incredible atmosphere," he stated.
Reflecting on World Cup Memories
In his T20I career, Bevon has played 14 matches, scoring 311 runs at an average of 34.55 and a strike rate of 146.00, with two fifties and a best score of 62*. This year alone, he has scored 247 runs in 10 matches, averaging 35.28. Recalling his experiences from the 2015 Cricket World Cup, he described it as a 'full circle moment.' "The 2015 World Cup was significant for me as I watched from the stands. Now, to have the chance to play here is a dream come true," he remarked.
Eden Park's Historical Significance
During the 2015 World Cup, Eden Park hosted memorable matches, including a group stage game against Australia, where Trent Boult's five-wicket haul helped New Zealand secure a win. In the semifinals, a remarkable performance by Brendon McCullum and Grant Elliott led the Kiwis to victory over South Africa, marking a historic moment in cricket. Reflecting on his journey as an international cricketer, Bevon stated, "It's rewarding to contribute to the team, even though we haven't secured a win yet. My confidence is growing, and I enjoy being part of this supportive group of players."
