Bermuda Clinches Caribbean Pickleball Championship Title Again
Bermuda's Triumph at the Caribbean Pickleball Championship
Bermuda showcased their prowess in regional pickleball by defeating the Cayman Islands 4-0 in a rain-affected team final, successfully defending their title at the Caribbean Pickleball Championship held at WER Joell Stadium on Saturday. The local team, consisting of Gavin Manders, Benjamin Jones, Sasha Fisher, and Patricia Mills, took advantage of their home conditions to secure victories in both men’s and women’s doubles, as well as in the mixed doubles matches. Despite interruptions from rain, Bermuda only conceded four games throughout the competition, marking their second consecutive championship win.
Co-captain Manders expressed the importance of winning at home, stating, “The first victory was wonderful and will always be cherished, but achieving it in front of our home crowd is even more rewarding.” He emphasized the strength of their team and the challenges they faced during the week, noting that their success reaffirms their leadership in the region.
Fisher shared her pride in the team's consistency and development, highlighting the improvement in the region since the previous year. “It’s incredible to defend our title for a second year. We have many talented players, and I’m proud of everyone’s contributions,” she remarked. She also noted the significance of competing on home soil, surrounded by their community, family, and friends.
Jones reflected on the special atmosphere of the event, stating, “It’s hard to describe how proud I am of our team. Performing in front of friends and family adds to the excitement, and the energy here is palpable.” He expressed confidence in their lineup, recalling their previous success against the Cayman Islands in the group stages.
Mills emphasized the unity of the team, saying, “I’m thrilled we retained the title, but more importantly, I’m proud of how well we played together. The energy was fantastic and really motivated us.”
