Sesko Reflects on Premier League Intensity Ahead of Manchester Derby

Stretford [UK], January 16: As the Manchester derby approaches, Manchester United forward Benjamin Sesko shared his thoughts on adapting to the high stakes of the Premier League and the significance of defeating their long-time rivals, Manchester City, this Saturday at Old Trafford.

“Winning against them would be monumental—they’ve been the dominant force for the past decade, but it’s going to be a tough challenge. We need to maintain our focus and attention to detail; a single mistake could lead to conceding a goal. Everyone must give their all,” Sesko stated in an exclusive interview with JioHotstar.

Reflecting on his initial experiences at Manchester United, he remarked, “It’s been fantastic—a completely new lifestyle, everything is on a different level. Once you adjust both physically and mentally, you realize how wonderful it is and how much of a privilege it is to play for this club. I’ve truly enjoyed it so far.”

Sesko emphasized the heightened intensity of the Premier League, noting, “The Premier League is on a different plane. The pace is much quicker; you have to be flawless every moment, with no time for second-guessing. Additionally, the physicality is intense.”

On the adjustment to the league's rapid pace, he added, “The transition is significant, so both body and mind require time to acclimate to the speed. It can take several weeks or even months.”

On January 5, Manchester United announced the exit of their head coach, Ruben Amorim, with former player Darren Fletcher stepping in to lead the team starting from Wednesday’s match against Burnley.

The Red Devils communicated this change to their supporters via their official website, currently positioned sixth in the Premier League standings with eight victories, seven draws, and five defeats across 19 matches, totaling 31 points—17 points behind league leaders Arsenal (48 points). They have drawn their last three matches, winning one and losing another.

“Ruben Amorim has left his position as Head Coach of Manchester United,” the club’s statement read. Amorim was appointed in November 2024 and guided the team to a UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao last May.
