Complaint Filed After Bengaluru Stampede Incident
Social activist Snehamayi Krishna has lodged a complaint at the Cubbon Park police station against Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar, and officials from the Karnataka Cricket Association in connection with the stampede that occurred at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of 11 individuals. Krishna asserted that the calamity was a consequence of the government's negligence. She emphasized that the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) does not represent the state, but is rather a privately owned team funded by liquor vendors. In such circumstances, she argued, the state government should not have invited or honored them. She accused the government of hastily organizing the event in front of Vidhana Soudha without any prior arrangements for law and order, leading to this disaster.
Government Officials Held Responsible for the Incident
Krishna placed the blame for the tragedy squarely on the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, stating, "This matter must be taken seriously. The CM and DCM are accountable for this. The police have filed an unnatural death report (UDR), which is not the appropriate action. A case should be registered under Section 106 of the Indian Penal Code." The opposition has also criticized the state government, with JDS MP H.D. Kumaraswamy and BJP leaders accusing the government of negligence. In response to these allegations, CM Siddaramaiah claimed that BJP and JDS leaders are merely spreading falsehoods. Following the stampede on June 4, which claimed 11 lives, officials from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the event management company DNA have been detained and are undergoing medical tests.
FIR Filed Against RCB and Others
The Karnataka police have registered an FIR against the Karnataka Cricket Board's administrative committee, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and others in connection with the stampede incident. In response, the KSCA has filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking to quash the FIR against them. Additionally, the Karnataka police have suspended several IPS officers, including Bengaluru's police commissioner B. Dayanand. Senior IPS officer Seemant Kumar Singh has taken over as the new police commissioner of the city.
