Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], March 29: In a stunning display, Bengaluru FC (BFC) triumphed over Mumbai City FC (MCFC) with a commanding 5-0 victory at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium during the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 quarterfinals. This win propels the Blues into the semi-finals, where they will face FC Goa, while the Islanders conclude their season with this defeat. Despite holding 59.5% possession, Mumbai City FC struggled against the home team's striking efficiency, converting five of their six shots on target into goals, as reported by ISL.

The scoring began early for the Blues, with Ryan Williams making a significant impact in the ninth minute. He delivered a low cross into the Mumbai City FC box, but Thaer Krouma's inability to control the pass led to a chaotic interception. Suresh Singh Wangjam seized the opportunity, firing the ball into the bottom right corner to give Bengaluru the lead.

In a bid to equalize, Mumbai City FC had a chance 13 minutes later when Brandon Fernandes took a corner kick, delivering a precise ball to Nathan Rodrigues. Unfortunately, Rodrigues' header went off target. The situation worsened for the Islanders just before halftime when Williams was fouled in the penalty area by Hmingthanmawia Ralte, resulting in a penalty. Edgar Mendez calmly converted the spot-kick in the 42nd minute, extending the lead to two goals.

Continuing their offensive strategy in the second half, Bengaluru FC capitalized on every opportunity. In the 62nd minute, Suresh won the ball back and executed a clever pass that found Williams, who slotted it into the bottom left corner, further increasing the lead.

Sunil Chhetri added to the scoreline in the 76th minute with a remarkable long-range shot that caught the Islanders off guard. As Mumbai City FC pushed forward to reduce the deficit, they left gaps in their defense. Jorge Pereyra Diaz took advantage of this, assisting Chhetri with a simple pass that the striker converted with precision from outside the box.

Diaz also scored against his former team in the 83rd minute, thanks to a timely assist from Alberto Noguera. The forward capitalized on the opportunity, placing the ball into the bottom right corner, concluding a spectacular performance for Bengaluru FC.

Suresh Singh Wangjam was instrumental in the match, completing 12 out of 13 passes, contributing both a goal and an assist, and orchestrating many of the team's key plays.

Bengaluru FC is set to face FC Goa in the semi-finals on April 2 and April 6, while Mumbai City FC exits the tournament.
