Ben Cutting Reflects on IPL 2016 Final and Ongoing Fan Support

Ben Cutting's Memorable IPL Experience
Former Australian cricketer Ben Cutting recently shared a humorous yet surprising story about his time during the IPL 2016 final. Cutting, who played a pivotal role in securing victory for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), mentioned that he still receives around 150 direct messages on Instagram each day from fans urging him to return to the game, especially to face RCB again.
In a conversation with ESPNcricinfo, Cutting remarked:
"If I check my Instagram messages right now, there are 150 every day asking, 'Can you make yourself available for the IPL as a replacement player?' for any team playing against RCB."
Ben Cutting's Heroics in the IPL 2016 Final
Cutting is celebrated for his outstanding all-round performance in the IPL 2016 final, where he scored an impressive 39 runs off just 15 balls and took two vital wickets. His explosive batting, particularly against Shane Watson, along with crucial dismissals of Chris Gayle (76) and KL Rahul (11), helped Sunrisers Hyderabad clinch their first and only IPL title to date.
Despite participating in only four matches that season, his impactful performance in the final made him a beloved figure among IPL fans, especially in Hyderabad. For his efforts, he was named the player of the match, while RCB fans faced yet another disappointment in their quest for their first IPL championship.
Now nearing the end of his cricketing journey, Ben Cutting has transitioned into real estate, founding a company called Golconda Property Group, named after a famous fort in Hyderabad. Although he has stepped away from cricket, fans fondly remember him for that unforgettable night.
Cutting expressed that the final in Bengaluru will always stand out as one of the most significant moments of his life, even surpassing his experiences representing Australia. Although he never played Test cricket for his country, he regards that IPL evening as his greatest sporting achievement.
