Belgium Aims to Challenge Spain in FIFA World Cup 2026 Quarter-Finals
Belgium Prepares for Tough Match Against Spain
Los Angeles [US], July 10: Rudi Garcia, the coach of Belgium, has recognized that his team may enter the upcoming quarter-final match against Spain as the underdogs. However, he emphasized that the Belgian Red Devils are determined to put up a strong fight against La Rojas.
Garcia acknowledged the impressive quality and possession-oriented gameplay of Spain but expressed confidence in Belgium's offensive capabilities. He stated that despite their underdog status, the team believes they can compete effectively and challenge the reigning European champions.
“We understand we are up against one of the favorites. Spain has excelled in ball possession for the last 15 to 20 years. Nevertheless, we have a strong squad. We rank as the second-highest scorers in the World Cup, facing the team with the highest expected goals. We believe we can succeed,” he remarked.
“Even as underdogs, we will strive to give them a tough match,” he added.
Belgium advanced to the quarter-finals after a varied performance in the group stage, which included a 1-1 draw with Egypt, a goalless tie against Iran, and a decisive 5-1 victory over New Zealand. They continued their journey by narrowly defeating Senegal 3-2 in the Round of 32 and overcoming co-hosts USA with a 4-1 win in the Round of 16.
On the other hand, Spain enters the quarter-finals in excellent form, having not conceded a single goal throughout the tournament and achieving a remarkable six consecutive clean sheets in FIFA World Cup history.
After finishing at the top of Group H, Spain eliminated Austria in the Round of 32 and narrowly defeated Portugal in the Round of 16 to secure their place in the quarter-finals.
While Spain aims to reach the semi-finals for the first time since their championship victory in 2010, Belgium, the bronze medalists from 2018, are eager to advance, with key players like Romelu Lukaku and Kevin de Bruyne providing essential leadership.
