BCCI Gathers for Key Review Meeting in Mumbai
In New Delhi, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing for an important review meeting at its Mumbai headquarters this Thursday. Key figures including head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and VVS Laxman, head of the Centre of Excellence, are expected to participate.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia had previously announced on July 10 that this meeting would take place following the conclusion of India's tour of England on July 19. Initially, the meeting aimed to discuss the team's defeats in the T20I series against England and Ireland, as well as the ODI series loss to England. However, it was postponed due to the T20I series in Zimbabwe and the Test series in Sri Lanka, which India won convincingly.
Sources close to the meeting confirmed that it is finally set to occur on September 3. "Yes, a meeting is scheduled for September 3. All top Board officials and relevant members are expected to arrive in Mumbai by tonight," they stated.
The discussions will focus on the recent performances of the senior men's team, analyzing successes and failures. Additionally, the ongoing injury issues affecting players like Hardik Pandya will be addressed, along with planning for significant upcoming events such as the multi-format tour of New Zealand, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series at home, and the 2027 Men's ODI World Cup.
The fitness challenges within the senior men's team were evident in the squad announcement for the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan. Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Harshit Rana have been provisionally selected for the matches scheduled at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi from September 13-17.
Pandya's absence from the squad following India's successful 2026 Men's T20 World Cup campaign raises concerns among stakeholders. As a key player for the 2027 Men's ODI World Cup, his ongoing injury issues, particularly a recent shin injury, have raised questions about his capacity to perform as a seam-bowling all-rounder.
In other news, former Indian captain and ex-BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, who currently heads the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), is set to attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 18 at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai.
The draft electoral roll for the AGM indicates representation from 31 of the 35 state units. The AGM will also conduct elections to appoint two representatives to the IPL Governing Council.
However, four state associations—Hyderabad, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Bihar—will not participate due to unspecified administrative issues.
Alongside Ganguly, former players Venkatesh Prasad, who is the current President of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and Saurabh Tiwary, Secretary of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA), will be present, along with Jaydev Shah, the head of the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA).
The Maharashtra Cricket Association will be represented by court-appointed administrator Govinda Sanap, while the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) will be represented by President Rohan Jaitley.
