BCCI Updates on Rishabh Pant's Injury During Test Against England

Injury Update on Rishabh Pant
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shared significant news regarding Rishabh Pant, the vice-captain of Team India, who suffered an injury during the first day of the third Test match against England at Lord's on July 10.
Pant injured his fingertips in the second session of the match. The incident occurred during the 33rd over of England's first innings when Jasprit Bumrah bowled to Ollie Pope. The England batsman attempted a flick but missed, leading to Pant diving for the ball.
Unfortunately, the ball struck Pant's fingertips, causing him immediate pain. He signaled for medical assistance but managed to finish the over before leaving the field with his fingers heavily bandaged. Dhruv Jurel took over wicketkeeping duties in his absence.
BCCI's Statement on Pant's Condition
Following Pant's exit from the field, the BCCI provided an update on his injury status.
On their social media platform, the BCCI confirmed that Pant had injured his left index finger and is currently under medical supervision.
"Update: #TeamIndia vice-captain Rishabh Pant got hit on his left index finger," the BCCI announced.
"He is receiving treatment and is being monitored by the medical team. Dhruv Jurel is currently keeping wickets in Rishabh's absence," they added.

Team India's Hopes for Pant's Quick Recovery
The Indian team is optimistic that Pant's injury will not be severe enough to keep him out of the ongoing Test, where they aim to gain a crucial lead in the series.
Rishabh Pant has been in outstanding form throughout the series against England, scoring 342 runs, which includes two centuries and a fifty, with an impressive average of 85.5 across four innings.
England's Performance at the End of Day 1
In the meantime, England's captain Ben Stokes chose to bat first after winning the toss. The opening pair, Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley, provided a solid start, navigating the initial movement in the first hour of play.
While Duckett and Crawley were building a partnership, Nitish Kumar Reddy struck first for India by dismissing Crawley for 23, leaving England at 43/1 in the 13th over.
In the same over, Reddy took out Duckett for 18, reducing England to 44/2. This quick succession of wickets brought India back into the game, putting England under pressure. Joe Root then joined Ollie Pope, and together they steadied the innings with a defensive approach.

Root was later joined by Ben Stokes, and the duo ensured no further wickets fell by the end of Day 1. England concluded the day at 251/4 after 83 overs, with Root and Stokes at the crease, scoring 99 and 39 respectively, and forming a 79-run unbeaten partnership.
