BCCI Imposes Heavy Fine on Rishabh Pant for Slow Over-Rate in IPL 2025

BCCI's Disciplinary Action Against LSG Captain
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to impose a substantial fine of ₹30 lakh on Rishabh Pant, captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), due to his team's slow over-rate during the IPL 2025 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). This penalty is notably higher than the standard ₹12 lakh fine typically associated with such infractions. Despite Pant's impressive performance, scoring 118 runs off 61 balls and leading LSG to a total of 227 runs for 3 wickets, the team could not secure a win as RCB chased down the target in just 18.4 overs, winning by six wickets.
BCCI's Official Statement on the Fine
In a statement released on Wednesday, the BCCI confirmed, "Rishabh Pant, captain of Lucknow Super Giants, has been fined following his team's slow over-rate during Match No. 70 of IPL 2025 against RCB at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday." The fine was imposed as this was LSG's third offence of the season regarding minimum over-rate violations.
Match Highlights: RCB vs LSG
In the match, RCB successfully chased down a target of 228 runs, securing a spot in the top two of the IPL standings. Jitesh Sharma led the charge for RCB with a remarkable 85 runs off just 33 balls, surpassing Pant's century. Pant's innings, while stellar, was not enough to clinch the victory for LSG. Additionally, Virat Kohli contributed with a half-century, achieving three new records during the game.
