BCCI Awaits Asia Cup Trophy Amidst Ongoing Dispute
BCCI's Trophy Dilemma
The Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Devjeet Saikia, has revealed that the board is still waiting for the Asia Cup trophy. He mentioned that if the trophy is not handed over by Monday, the matter will be raised at the meeting scheduled for November 4 with the International Cricket Council (ICC). Following the final match, India declined to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the President of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). In response to India's decision, an official removed the Asia Cup trophy from the stage without providing any explanation and took it off the field.
BCCI's Request for the Trophy
Discussing the situation, Devjeet Saikia informed a news agency, "Ten days ago, we wrote to the ACC president requesting that the trophy be handed over to BCCI as soon as possible. However, we have yet to receive the trophy. We are waiting for one more day. If we do not receive it by November 3, a meeting will be held at the ICC headquarters in Dubai. We will present our complaint to the governing body of international cricket. I am confident that the ICC will act justly and assist India in obtaining the trophy promptly."
Celebration Amidst Controversy
Despite the ongoing dispute, India found a way to celebrate. Captain Suryakumar Yadav mimicked the slow walk of his predecessor Rohit Sharma after the T20 World Cup final in 2024, lifting an imaginary trophy with his teammates. The standoff regarding the Asia Cup trophy began when India refused to accept it from Naqvi, who is also the Interior Minister of Pakistan, amidst rising tensions between the two nations following India's five-wicket victory.
