Bangladesh's Strong Start in the First Test

In the first Test match against Sri Lanka at Galle, Bangladesh has established a solid grip on the game. After losing three wickets for just 45 runs, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto partnered with wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim to stabilize the innings and push towards a substantial score. Following Shanto's century, Rahim also achieved his 12th career century, reaching the milestone with the help of five boundaries off 176 balls. This marks his second century in Sri Lanka, with both centuries scored at this venue. Previously, Rahim had an impressive double century against Sri Lanka in 2013, scoring 200 runs.

Six Centuries on Foreign Soil


Mushfiqur Rahim, Bangladesh's most experienced batsman, has made a remarkable achievement by scoring a century against Sri Lanka. This is his first century in Sri Lanka in 12 years, and it is also his sixth century on foreign soil. He is the first Bangladeshi batsman to score the most centuries overseas. In terms of Test centuries for Bangladesh, he is second only to Mominul Haque, who has 13 centuries. Thanks to the impressive centuries from Shanto and Rahim, Bangladesh has solidified its position against Sri Lanka.


Bangladesh Scores Two Centuries on Day One


By the end of the first day's play in the Test match against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh had amassed 292 runs for the loss of three wickets. Captain Najmul Hossain is batting on 136 runs, having faced 260 balls with one six and 14 fours, while Mushfiqur Rahim has contributed 105 runs off 186 balls with five boundaries. The pair has formed a formidable partnership, adding 247 runs for the fourth wicket. Sri Lanka's debutant Tharindu Ratnayake has taken two wickets, while Asitha Fernando has claimed one.


Bangladesh's innings did not start well after winning the toss and opting to bat first, losing their first wicket for just 5 runs.
