BCB's Strategic Meeting with BCCI

Dhaka: On Saturday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), under the leadership of president Aminul Islam Bulbul, convened to discuss its cricketing relationship with India. The board confirmed that they have officially communicated with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding future bilateral tours and collaborative ventures.

Previously, the BCB had sent an email to the BCCI concerning the upcoming series and tours. According to the ICC Future Tour Programme, India is set to face Bangladesh in a series.

The Indian men's cricket team is expected to visit Bangladesh in September 2026 for a six-match white-ball series, which will include three ODIs and three T20Is. This tour was initially scheduled for August 2025 but was postponed due to scheduling conflicts and security concerns. The final schedule is pending confirmation following a proposal from the BCB to the BCCI.

A few months ago, the BCCI instructed the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who was auctioned for $1 million, from their 2026 squad. This decision was met with discontent from the Bangladeshi government and public, prompting the BCB to request a relocation of their matches in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 from India to Sri Lanka, citing security issues for their players.

Despite multiple evaluations, the ICC denied this request, stating there were no credible security threats to Bangladeshi players. Consequently, Bangladesh was withdrawn from the T20 World Cup and replaced by Scotland.

Ultimately, the situation was resolved, allowing the BCB to avoid a significant fine from the ICC and secure hosting rights for an ICC event in 2028. Although Bangladesh had initially banned the broadcast of IPL matches in the country, this ban has recently been lifted.
