Ballon d'Or Blunder: Multiple 'Winners' Accidentally Revealed Before Ceremony
A Surprising Mix-Up at the Ballon d'Or
London: The Ballon d'Or organizers faced an embarrassing situation when they mistakenly published several 'winners' for the men's award on their website just hours before the prestigious ceremony.
One of the announcements stated, "Harry Kane wins the 2026 Ballon d'Or," while similar articles claimed that Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe were also recipients.
It was later revealed that France Football, the event's organizer, had prepared numerous announcements in advance for the actual winner but accidentally released them prematurely before the gala at the London Palladium.
"Some profiles of nominees prepared by BallonDor.com were inadvertently published online," the organizers clarified in a statement to a major news outlet.
"These articles were created for all nominees and should not be interpreted as a reflection of the final results or rankings."
