Asan City, Aug 7: In a thrilling quarterfinal match at the BWF World Tour, Rakshitha Ramraj ended the impressive run of Tanvi Sharma, defeating her fellow Indian in a closely contested match at the Korea Masters 2026.
Rakshitha triumphed with scores of 21-18, 19-21, 21-19 at the Asan Yi Sun-sin Gymnasium. After winning the first game, Tanvi seemed poised to secure a semifinal berth. However, Rakshitha made a strong comeback, pushing the match to a decisive game where she ultimately prevailed, extending her lead in their head-to-head encounters to 4-0.
Next, Rakshitha will compete against another Indian player, Ashmita Chaliha, who advanced to the semifinals after a remarkable victory over top seed Hina Akechi, with scores of 20-22, 21-15, 21-19.
Unfortunately, India's participation in the women's and mixed doubles categories concluded at the Korea Masters. Sonali Singh and Ritika Thaker faced elimination in the women's doubles, losing 21-15, 21-9 to the seventh-seeded Japanese duo of Sumire Nakade and Miyu Takahashi. In mixed doubles, sixth seeds Ishaan Bhatnagar and Shruti Mishra were defeated 21-16, 16-21, 21-13 by South Korea's Shin Tae-yang and Kim Yu Jung.
Later, in the men's doubles, Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy and Krishna Prasad Garaga are set to face the Malaysian pair of Man Wei Chong and Soh Wooi Yik for a chance to reach the semifinals. Ranked 118th in the world, Roy and Garaga had previously upset the fourth-seeded Thai team of Worrapol Thongsa-nga and Chaloempon Charoenkitamorn in the first round.
Earlier in the tournament, Anmol Kharb's journey ended in the pre-quarterfinals after a tough match against Olympian Vu Thi Trang from Vietnam, where she lost 23-21, 15-21, 21-18. Additionally, Arjun Reddy Pochana and Achutaditya Rao Doddavarapu were eliminated in the men's doubles first round, suffering a defeat of 21-3, 21-10 against the second-seeded South Korean pair of Choi Sol Gyu and Goh V Shem. In women's doubles, Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra also faced an early exit, losing 21-15, 21-13 to Japan's second-seeded duo of Ririna Hiramoto and Kokona Ishikawa.
