Mathias Boe Rejoins Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty as Coaching Consultant

Mathias Boe has rejoined Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, India's leading men's doubles badminton pair, following their victory at the Singapore Open. This partnership aims to enhance their performance as they prepare for significant upcoming tournaments, including the BWF World Championships and the Asian Games. Boe's previous coaching tenure was marked by remarkable success, leading the duo to multiple titles and a World No. 1 ranking. The future of this collaboration raises questions about their long-term goals, including preparations for the 2028 Olympics.

Boe's Return Marks a New Chapter for India's Top Doubles Pair

Mathias Boe has rejoined forces with Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who currently hold the title of World No. 4 in men's doubles badminton. The announcement came shortly after the duo's impressive victory at the Singapore Open, where they clinched their first title in two years, marking a significant milestone in their careers. Their last title win was at the Thailand Open on May 19, 2024, during Boe's previous coaching tenure.

Boe, who previously coached the pair from January 2021 to August 2024, has returned as a coaching consultant and sparring partner, collaborating with Tan Kim Her, who took over coaching duties in late 2024 after Boe stepped down following their quarterfinal exit at the Paris Olympics.

On May 31, Boe revealed his decision to rejoin the duo, stating that he had begun working with them again in April during the Thomas Cup held in Horsens, Denmark. He shared on social media, "Guess who’s back together? Since I now have a bit more time on my hands, pre-Thomas Cup I have secretly started working with Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty again."

While Tan Kim Her will take the lead as the head coach, Boe will focus on tactical analysis and game strategy. He is set to oversee their preparations for the upcoming BWF World Championships in New Delhi this August and the Asian Games in Japan scheduled for September-October. Boe expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "This time as a consultant and sparring partner for Tan Kim Her, my focus will be on tactical aspects and match analyses, while coach Tan will be with them full-time. Together, we aim to sharpen their skills further. The Singapore Open title is a great start, but we remain focused on the World Championships in Delhi and the Asian Games in Japan, where I will be alongside coach Tan again. #JaiHind India."

Boe's previous collaboration with Satwik and Chirag was notably successful, leading them to the pinnacle of world rankings. From 2022 to 2024, they secured seven World Tour titles out of a total of ten, along with gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and the historic Asian Games in Hangzhou, marking a first for Indian badminton. They also achieved the World No. 1 ranking in October 2023. The duo is set to defend their gold medal at the upcoming Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

However, it remains uncertain whether Boe's current role will be a temporary or permanent arrangement, particularly regarding Satwik and Chirag's preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
