Following this victory, Prannoy is set to face Singapore's former world champion Loh Kean Yew in the next round.

While Prannoy's victory was a highlight, the day was mixed for the rest of the Indian players. In mixed doubles, the duo of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Krasto advanced to the second round after a tough match against Malaysia's Wong Tien Ci and Lim Chiew Sien, winning 21-14, 20-22, 21-13. On the singles side, former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth put up a valiant effort but lost to local favorite Loh Kean Yew with scores of 20-22, 21-19, 17-21, allowing Yew to avenge his previous defeat to Srikanth.
