Ayush Badoni Joins Indian Cricket Team Following Washington Sundar's Injury
Ayush Badoni Receives First Call-Up to Indian Team
Ayush Badoni has been selected for the Indian cricket team for the first time, stepping in for all-rounder Washington Sundar, who has been ruled out of the ODI series against New Zealand due to injury. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced this in a media release, stating that Sundar experienced sharp pain in the lower part of his left rib while bowling during the first ODI of the three-match series at the BCA Stadium in Kothambi, Vadodara, on Sunday.
Washington Sundar's Condition Under Review
The statement indicated that Sundar will undergo further scans, after which the BCCI's medical team will seek expert advice. In his place, the men's selection committee has included Ayush Badoni, who will join the Indian team in Rajkot for the second ODI against New Zealand. Badoni is a right-handed batsman and also bowls right-arm off-spin.
Updated Indian Squad for Upcoming ODIs
The updated squad for the second and third ODIs includes: Shubman Gill (captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (wicketkeeper), Shreyas Iyer (vice-captain), Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper), and Ayush Badoni.
Sundar's Performance Before Injury
In the first match against New Zealand, Washington Sundar bowled only five overs, conceding 25 runs without taking a wicket. The 26-year-old left the field during New Zealand's innings and did not return. However, he later batted at number eight, scoring seven runs in India's four-wicket victory over New Zealand. After the match, Indian captain Shubman Gill confirmed that Sundar had sustained a side strain and would be undergoing scans.
Impact of Injuries on Team India
This injury to Sundar is another setback for Team India, as Rishabh Pant had previously been ruled out of the series due to a side strain sustained during training. Dhruv Jurel was included in the playing eleven in place of Pant for the first ODI.
