Axar Patel's Remarkable Rise in ICC Rankings


Dubai: Indian all-rounder Axar Patel has made a significant leap in the ICC ODI all-rounder rankings, moving up three spots to secure the ninth position following his outstanding performance in the first match against England in Birmingham.


In that match, Axar took four wickets and scored a crucial 57 runs off 52 balls, playing a vital role in India's six-wicket victory on Tuesday.


His impressive display also saw him rise 18 places in the batting rankings, now positioned at 73, while he climbed two spots in the bowling rankings to reach 42nd.


The Indian squad welcomed back key players Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli in the ODI format after a disappointing 0-4 loss in the T20 series.


Gill, before retiring hurt at 80 runs from 75 balls, hit 11 fours and a six, putting India in a strong position to chase down the target of 259 against England.


This performance earned Gill an increase of 12 rating points, bringing him just 11 points shy of Daryl Mitchell, who currently leads the ODI batting rankings.


Bumrah's return was also noteworthy, as he took one wicket, which helped him regain his place at 24th in the bowling rankings.


Washington Sundar, who scored an unbeaten 52, also made headlines by climbing 24 spots in the batting rankings to 177th and moving up 16 places in the all-rounder rankings to 55th.


On the England side, Joe Root showcased his batting prowess, reaching an equal 12th position in the Men's ODI Batting Rankings after scoring 76 runs off 76 balls.


Liam Dawson's impressive 68 runs also earned him a significant boost, moving him up 81 spots to the 262nd position in the Batting Rankings.
