Australia's Revised Test Squad for West Indies Series

Canberra, Australia - June 20: Australia has revealed its team for the three away Tests against the West Indies, featuring significant alterations from the squad that participated in the World Test Championship (WTC) final.

Marnus Labuschagne, a key player in Australia's batting lineup, has been dropped from the squad after a series of disappointing performances, including a lack of centuries. He was elevated to the opening position during the WTC final against South Africa, as reported by a leading sports news outlet.

In his final appearance at Lord's, Labuschagne scored just 17 and 22, extending his struggle in the Test arena.

George Bailey, the chair of selectors, commented, “Marnus has the potential to be a vital part of our team. He recognizes that his performance hasn't met expectations. We will continue to support him as he works on improving his game.”

Additionally, Steve Smith will miss the opening match of the series, set to commence on June 25, due to an injury sustained while fielding. He suffered a compound dislocation of his right little finger during a match against South Africa.

Smith was injured while attempting to catch a ball edged by South Africa's captain Temba Bavuma. Although he opted against surgery, he will need to wear a splint for eight weeks.

Bailey stated, “Steve requires more time for recovery, so we will give him an additional week of rest before reassessing his condition.”

With both Labuschagne and Smith absent, young talent Sam Konstas will make his third Test appearance following an impressive performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India. Josh Inglis also returns to the Test squad as a replacement. He previously made a mark with a remarkable century against Sri Lanka in Galle earlier this year.

Bailey expressed enthusiasm about the new additions, saying, “We are thrilled to provide Josh and Sam with this opportunity to advance their Test careers. Josh was exceptional in his previous Test, demonstrating great skill and pressure on the opposition.”

Australia's Test squad includes: Pat Cummins (c), Sean Abbott, Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Sam Konstas, Matt Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, and Beau Webster.
