Australia's Strategy for Upcoming ODIs

Hobart, Feb 26: Australia is looking to build on their impressive victory in the opening ODI as they seek to take control of the closely contested multi-format series against India. Allrounder Ashleigh Gardner praised their last performance, calling it nearly flawless.

The series is currently tied at four points each, showcasing the competitive nature of the rivalry. India initially took the lead by winning the T20I series 2-1, but Australia bounced back with a decisive six-wicket win at Allan Border Field, leveling the series and boosting team morale.

Gardner reflected on the team's journey, acknowledging both their successes and areas for improvement, while emphasizing the importance of their recent performance.

“We have had our moments of brilliance and some less impressive patches. However, the last game felt like a perfect performance. The bowlers set a strong foundation, and we chased the target convincingly,” Gardner shared with reporters in Hobart.

Despite the disappointment of losing the T20 series, she expressed confidence in the team's ability to perform at their best, stating, “When we focus on our game, we know we are the top team, and we should carry that confidence forward.”

Australia's comeback is notable, especially with key players Ellyse Perry and Kim Garth absent due to injuries. Gardner expressed faith in the squad's depth, indicating that substitutes are prepared to step in as needed.

As they prepare for the upcoming ODIs at Bellerive Oval, Gardner emphasized the need for adaptability, particularly since conditions may differ from those in Brisbane.

“Heading into the one-day series, I believe this is one of our strongest formats. After our win in Brisbane, we have a solid record there. Our focus was on our game plan, and we adapted when necessary, which we will need to do again tomorrow,” she stated.

“While we can analyze conditions beforehand, it’s crucial to play based on what we observe rather than preconceived notions about the ground. Bellerive typically offers a flatter pitch,” she added.

“We know India will be aggressive, as seen during the World Cup, but conditions in Australia provide more bounce, which can favor bowlers at times. Our ability to adapt will be key moving forward,” she concluded.

On the Indian side, there is positive news regarding captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who is expected to play despite a knee issue that limited her participation in the last match. Allrounder Deepti Sharma confirmed that Kaur is “fit and fine,” which is a timely boost ahead of the important match.

Australia may keep their winning lineup intact but could consider local allrounder Nicola Carey for her experience with the conditions, while uncapped left-arm pacer Lucy Hamilton is also a potential addition to enhance their bowling strength.
