Wassan's Strong Stance on Comparisons

Former Indian fast bowler Atul Wassan has ignited a new discussion by vehemently rejecting the comparisons made between KL Rahul and cricketing icon Sachin Tendulkar. During an appearance on OTTplay's Bails and Banter, Wassan expressed his discontent when prompted about such parallels. He recalled how fans would switch off their televisions when Tendulkar was dismissed, questioning whether the same occurs when KL Rahul gets out.

Wassan's Disbelief

"If you mention KL Rahul and Sachin Tendulkar in the same breath, I might as well leave. Are people really turning off their TVs when KL Rahul is out? Who are these fans?" Wassan remarked incredulously.

Acknowledging Rahul's Talent

While Wassan recognized Rahul's talent, his frustration stemmed from the unrealistic expectations and exaggerated comparisons drawn between players from different eras. He emphasized that while KL Rahul is undoubtedly a skilled batsman, he should not be measured against the standards set by Tendulkar.

Wassan on India's Batting Legends

Wassan also contributed to the ongoing discussions regarding India's greatest batsmen. He commended Virat Kohli for his leadership in high-pressure situations but argued that Sunil Gavaskar faced a more daunting environment during his playing days.

Gavaskar vs. Kohli

"Virat has faced top bowlers like Jimmy Anderson and Kagiso Rabada. However, in Gavaskar's time, there was a genuine fear among players. Therefore, I believe there is no greater batsman than Sunil Gavaskar," he stated.

Despite this, Wassan praised Kohli's prowess and adaptability in contemporary cricket, noting that his achievements stem from his ability to handle pressure rather than merely chasing records.

Final Thoughts on KL Rahul

Wassan concluded by offering measured praise for KL Rahul, describing him as a "proper player" with refined technique. He remarked,

"He relies on his technique rather than sheer power. When he maintains his form and technique, he can confidently execute challenging shots," he added.
