Aryan Shah Prepares for Bengaluru Open

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], January 2: The city is set to host the significant 10th edition of the Bengaluru Open from January 5-10, 2026, at the SM Krishna Tennis Stadium, and Aryan Shah is keen to kick off the new season positively.

The 20-year-old player recently arrived from Ahmedabad, where he has been training for the upcoming year.

“I just landed last night from Ahmedabad and completed my first practice session today. It feels great to be back. I have participated in Bengaluru a few times and have some fond memories, so I’m looking forward to the tournament,” Aryan shared.

His past experiences include a commendable performance at the SM Krishna Memorial Open earlier this year, part of the ITF World Tennis Tour Men’s M25 series, which featured a prize pool of $30,000.

Having entered the main draw following a recent victory at the ITF M25 Ahmedabad Open, Aryan won his initial matches with poise. Although his journey concluded against second seed Oliver Crawford, it marked one of his more consistent outings at the professional level.

As the year wrapped up, Aryan found himself ranked 402nd in singles and 379th in doubles.

“Throughout 2023, I’ve achieved some significant wins and have been steadily climbing the rankings. The last few months were challenging, but I’ve taken away many positives from the year. I need to stay focused and optimistic. Currently, I’m ranked number two in the country, and I’m pleased with my progress,” Aryan remarked.

In the past two years, Aryan has developed into a versatile player with a strong all-court game, characterized by a dependable serve and solid baseline play. He has secured two ITF Futures singles titles (2024 M15 Kingston, 2025 M15 Ahmedabad) and one doubles title (2024 M15 Kingston). Additionally, he had the privilege of representing India as a reserve player in the 2024 Davis Cup tie against Sweden.

With the Bengaluru Open being one of India’s premier tennis events, Aryan is focused on simplicity. “My primary goal is to secure a win,” he confessed.

“I’ve faced some tough weeks, and I’m eager to turn that around. This tournament is the highlight of the year in India, and I want to showcase my skills to the audience,” he added.

The Bengaluru Open has been instrumental in fostering Indian tennis talent, consistently offering players the chance to compete at the ATP Challenger level domestically.

Through main-draw entries, qualifiers, and wild cards, Indian athletes have gained essential exposure against formidable international competitors, aiding them in earning ranking points and gaining experience in high-stakes professional settings.

“The 10th edition is a significant milestone for Bengaluru tennis. The local community has always been welcoming and supportive of players. Karnataka tennis has excelled in hosting events, and it’s always a pleasure to return. The crowds at major tournaments are fantastic. This is my first tournament of the year, and afterward, I’ll be heading to the US for a semester. It promises to be an exciting experience,” Aryan concluded.

As the Bengaluru Open marks a decade of tennis excellence, Aryan Shah steps onto the court with confidence, ready to embrace the future for himself and Indian tennis.
