Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh) [India], March 2: Emerging racing talent Arvid Lindblad has shared insights about his relationship with four-time Formula One champion Max Verstappen, commending the Dutch driver for his humility and support towards younger racers.
Lindblad, who is making waves in Formula 1, has a unique connection to India through his maternal lineage from Punjab. Just a week prior to his anticipated Formula 1 debut, he visited India for the Red Bull Moto Jam event.
The Red Bull Moto Jam, one of the largest motorsport festivals in India, took place in Delhi NCR on Sunday. Following its inaugural edition in Chennai, the event successfully hosted its second iteration in Delhi NCR, featuring elite athletes, including Lindblad, who captivated the audience with a VCARB-branded F1 car.
In an interview before the Red Bull Moto Jam, Lindblad expressed that he has known Verstappen for several years, describing him as consistently approachable and generous with his guidance, despite his significant achievements in motorsport.
“I’ve known Max for a few years now, and he’s always been incredibly kind and willing to offer advice or help whenever I’ve needed it,” Lindblad remarked. “He really tried to support me, and I have a lot of respect for him because of that.”
Verstappen, recognized as one of the most formidable drivers in modern Formula 1, has achieved remarkable success. However, Lindblad emphasizes that the Dutchman's character off the track is equally impressive.
“In sport, when you achieve success, it can be easy to let the spotlight change you,” Lindblad noted. “But Max has remained humble, generous with his time, and genuinely kind despite everything he has accomplished. That’s something I find truly impressive.”
Lindblad is set to become the fourth-youngest driver in F1 history when he makes his debut for Racing Bulls at the 2026 Australian Grand Prix, at the age of 18 years and seven months.
As he gears up for the 2026 Formula 1 season as the only rookie on the grid, Lindblad has identified Verstappen as his go-to for advice. He highlighted the similarities between their career paths, particularly Verstappen's early entry into Formula 1.
Verstappen holds the record as the youngest driver to debut in Formula 1, achieving this milestone in 2015 at just 17 years, five months, and 13 days. Now, at 28, he is a four-time world champion, trailing only behind legends like Juan Manuel Fangio, Michael Schumacher, and Lewis Hamilton.
“Heading into the 2026 season as the only rookie, if there’s anyone I’d turn to for advice, it would probably be Max Verstappen. He’s always been very friendly. When you look at his journey into Formula 1, the timing of his arrival, and the way he progressed so quickly at such a young age, there are definitely similarities to my own path,” Lindblad explained.
With the 2026 Formula 1 season on the horizon, discussions about new regulations are intensifying. However, Lindblad remains focused on his preparation rather than external distractions.
“I don’t know. I mean, obviously, there’s been a lot of talk in the media. It’s not really something I’m wasting headspace or energy over. I mean, it is what it is. So I’m just trying, with the team, to understand these new regulations as best I can to get the best out of them,” he stated.
Lindblad also reflected on how the Red Bull Junior program has been pivotal in his journey to Formula One, recalling that being signed at just 13 years old was a transformative moment in his career.
“I was signed to the Red Bull Junior Programme when I was 13, which was an incredibly special moment for me. I’m hugely grateful for the opportunity they gave me. They’ve played a massive role in helping me progress through the ranks so quickly and ultimately reach Formula One,” he shared.
In the 2025 season, McLaren’s Lando Norris secured his first Formula 1 World Championship, finishing ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. The season was marked by intense competition among Norris, Verstappen, and Oscar Piastri, with Norris achieving 18 podiums and consistently finishing in the top five.
McLaren also celebrated their 10th Constructors’ Championship in the 2025 season, marking their second consecutive title by winning six out of 24 Grand Prix, including a key victory at the Singapore Grand Prix.
The 2026 Formula 1 season is set to kick off with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 8, following pre-season testing in Bahrain from February 11 to 20.
