Choudhary's Journey to the Final

Indian boxer Arundhati Choudhary has successfully advanced to the final of the women's 70kg category at the Commonwealth Games 2026. She achieved this by defeating the reigning champion Rosie Eccles from Wales in a tightly contested semifinal match on Friday.

Choudhary showcased her skills with a strategic performance, utilizing effective counter-punching and precision to secure a split decision victory over her seasoned opponent.

Eccles began the match with an aggressive approach, attempting to exert early pressure. However, Choudhary maintained her composure, responding with cleaner and more effective punches. A standing count against Eccles late in the first round shifted momentum in Choudhary's favor, leading the judges to award her the round.

In the second round, despite Eccles enjoying strong local support, Choudhary continued to dominate. Her sharper counters and superior timing allowed her to land more impactful punches, with all five judges scoring this round in her favor.

As the final round commenced, Eccles sought to mount a comeback, but Choudhary stood firm, successfully avoiding significant damage. The match concluded in a somewhat chaotic manner, yet Choudhary emerged victorious with a 4-0 split decision, securing her spot in the gold medal match.

India's Strong Performance at the Commonwealth Games

Choudhary's victory contributes to India's remarkable boxing achievements at the Commonwealth Games 2026, where she will now compete for gold in the women's 70kg final. Earlier, fellow boxers Jaismine Lamboria, Ankush Panghal, and Preeti Pawar also advanced to the finals in their respective categories.

To date, India has amassed a total of 17 medals at the Commonwealth Games 2026, which includes three gold, nine silver, and five bronze medals.

The gold medals have been secured by Mirabai Chanu in women's 48kg weightlifting, Sharmila Dhankar in women's shot put F57, and Dilip Gavit in men's 100m T47.

Additionally, silver medals have been won by Rishikanta Singh, Muthupandi Raja, Gyaneshwari Yadav, Sarvesh Kushare, Valluri Ajaya Babu, Harjinder Kaur, Gulveer Singh, Murali Sreeshankar, Mohammed Basil, and Lovepreet Singh. Bronze medals have been awarded to Jhandu Kumar, Bindyarani Devi, Shilpa K Shyla, and Seema Kaliramna.
