New Delhi, July 19: Mariano Agustin Caucino, the Argentine Ambassador to India, extended his congratulations to the Argentine national team for reaching yet another FIFA World Cup final, expressing optimism for an exciting match against Spain.
He expressed gratitude towards Indian supporters for their enthusiastic backing of Argentina, Lionel Messi, and the entire squad, hoping for a World Cup victory.
The final showdown between Spain and Argentina is set to take place at the New York New Jersey Stadium this Sunday (local time). Spain is on the hunt for their first World Cup title since 2010, while Messi's Argentina aims to secure consecutive championships.
"First and foremost, I congratulate the Argentine team for making it to the final once again. We will be watching the match along with the rest of the world, and I anticipate a fantastic game as both teams are exceptionally skilled. I hope Argentina emerges victorious. Caucino lauded Messi for his exemplary leadership and sportsmanship, declaring him the best player in the world. He expressed pride in Messi and acknowledged the admiration he garners from Indian fans, while choosing not to compare him with Diego Maradona, instead focusing on the hope for Argentina's World Cup success.
"Messi exemplifies the friendship between nations and contributes to creating a positive environment. We are both happy and confident. He is not just the best player but also a great role model. We appreciate that the Indian people recognize this. I cannot compare Maradona and Messi as we are focused on hoping for an Argentine victory," he added.
Argentina, the defending champions, made a remarkable comeback to defeat England 2-1 in the semifinals, overcoming an initial deficit. Enzo Fernandez equalized before Lautaro Martinez netted a stoppage-time winner, propelling Argentina into the final against Spain.
Conversely, Spain reached the FIFA World Cup final for the first time since their 2010 victory by defeating France 2-0 in a composed display.
