During a recent episode of the Kitchen Pickleball podcast, Truong, who ranks No. 8 on the PPA Tour and is a four-time PPA Tour Asia champion, discussed the unique qualities that distinguish Waters in women's doubles.
Waters recently celebrated her 43rd triple crown victory at the Carvana Championship, part of the Greater Zion Cup held at Black Desert Resort on March 29. Her remarkable start to the season, featuring consecutive triple crowns and numerous gold medals, solidifies her reputation as a top competitor in the sport.
Truong emphasized Waters' exceptional ability to control the pace of the game and execute effective combinations. "In women's doubles, she accelerates the game and excels at it because she is prepared with her combos. Her combinations surpass those of any other player," Truong noted.
Furthermore, Truong pointed out Waters' remarkable anticipation and hand speed as factors that elevate her performance. "Her quick reflexes and the skill to step back and anticipate plays are extraordinary. That’s what sets her apart," she explained.
Having faced both Waters and Catherine Parenteau on the court, Truong expressed that competing against such high-caliber players provided invaluable insights. "I cherished the experience. Observing someone of her caliber across the net teaches you so much," she remarked.
Despite Waters' aggressive gameplay, Truong approached their match with confidence. "I was aware she would be aggressive, so I prepared myself accordingly," she stated. She also discussed the distinctions between women's and mixed doubles, noting that women's matches often demand quicker reactions and sharper angles. "In women's play, it’s crucial to speed up and be ready for the next shot. I am still learning how to navigate those scenarios," she added.
