Anna Leigh Waters Aims for Triple Crown at Veolia Texas Open
Anna Leigh Waters' Remarkable Journey
Anna Leigh Waters is on the verge of achieving something both familiar and remarkable. The standout player of the PPA Tour continued her impressive streak at the Veolia Texas Open on March 14, making it to the finals in women's singles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles, bringing her closer to a 42nd triple crown. For Waters, these consistent final appearances have become a hallmark of her excellence, yet they remain impressive in their regularity. Earlier this month, she secured her 41st triple crown at the Newport Beach Open, and now she is just three victories away from adding another significant milestone to her illustrious career.
Waters displayed commanding performance in the women's singles semifinal, defeating Kaitlyn Christian with scores of 11-4, 11-7 to secure her place in the final. She will face Kate Fahey, who reached the championship match after a tough semifinal win against Brooke Buckner, finishing 11-8, 4-11, 11-3.
Her mixed doubles semifinal showcased her versatility as she teamed up with Ben Johns, delivering a dominant performance against Catherine Parenteau and Gabe Tardio, winning 11-3, 11-2. They will face a formidable challenge in the final from Anna Bright and Hayden Patriquin, who advanced after defeating Parris Todd and Andrei Daescu 11-2, 11-9.
Waters also completed her trio of finals in women's doubles alongside Anna Bright. The top-seeded pair triumphed over Catherine Parenteau and Rachel Rohrabacher with scores of 11-5, 11-8, earning another title shot. Their opponents in the final will be Parris Todd and Alix Truong, who overcame the ninth-seeded duo of Mari Humberg and Milan Rane in a competitive semifinal, winning 11-6, 4-11, 11-7.
What makes Waters' situation particularly intriguing is not just the chance for another triple crown, but the remarkable consistency with which she positions herself for such achievements. Competing in three finals at a single tournament requires more than just skill; it demands endurance, concentration, and the emotional resilience to reset after each match and opponent. Waters excels in this regard, standing out among her peers in the sport.
However, the pressure that accompanies her dominance presents its own set of challenges. Each appearance now carries significant expectations, and every deep run invites comparisons to her own exceptionally high standards. Nevertheless, Waters remains where she frequently finds herself—at the heart of Championship Sunday, with multiple title opportunities within her grasp.
