Anil Kumble, the former captain of India, has lauded Ravindra Jadeja for his impressive consistency and maturity with the bat, particularly after Jadeja's significant contribution in India's first innings during the ongoing Test match at Lord's.
Jadeja scored a composed 72 runs, demonstrating exceptional patience and control, which helped India reach a total of 387. His partnership with Washington Sundar was crucial, as they added 50 runs for the seventh wicket, pushing India past the 350-run mark.
Kumble Highlights Jadeja's Importance
"He has always possessed the skill, which we have recognized for a long time, but his ability to consistently perform with the bat for India has been remarkable," Kumble stated, speaking as an expert on JioHotstar.
"Ravindra Jadeja brings immense value, not only with his bowling but also with his batting and fielding. Contributions like these are essential," he continued. Kumble also pointed out Jadeja's strong batting foundation, noting that the left-handed batsman has achieved two triple centuries in first-class cricket.
Jadeja's Role in India's Middle Order
Jadeja has rapidly established himself as one of India's most dependable middle-order batsmen.
"He has been elevated to the number six position in the batting lineup, and he has certainly proven his worth. In the previous match, he made a significant contribution, and today he formed a fantastic partnership with Washington Sundar," Kumble remarked.
With his latest half-century, Jadeja ranks sixth among the top run-scorers in the series, accumulating 266 runs. His two fifties in the second Test, scoring 89 and an unbeaten 69, were pivotal in securing India's victory, further enhancing his reputation as a reliable Test batsman.
India concluded the day with a total of 387, matching England's score. Following a fiery exchange between Shubman Gill and Zak Crawley, England ended the day at 2/0 without losing any wickets.
