Anahat Singh Reaches Finals in Historic Achievement

In a remarkable achievement, Anahat Singh has become the first Indian since Joshna Chinappa in 2005 to advance to the finals of the World Squash Junior Individual Championships held in Ontario, Canada. Anahat, the top seed from Delhi, secured her place in the final by defeating Egypt's 3/4 seed Barb Sameh. The match showcased Anahat's exceptional skills, as she dominated the first set with an 11-3 victory. Although Barb managed to equalize by winning the second set 11-8, Anahat regained her momentum, clinching the third and fourth sets with scores of 11-4 and 11-8, respectively, to complete a stunning semifinal performance.

Now, Anahat is set to face the second seed, Egyptian Ruqayya Salem, in the final. If she maintains her winning streak, Anahat will make history as India's first World Junior squash champion. Reflecting on her performance, Anahat expressed her determination to improve after not playing her best in the quarterfinals. She stated, “I knew I had to come out today and show what I’m capable of producing on court.”

Having previously won a bronze medal after reaching the semifinals last year, Anahat has made significant strides in her career. She secured her spot in the semifinals this year by defeating Egypt’s Habiba Rizk 3-1 in the quarter-finals, marking her as the first Indian squash player to reach the World Junior Championships semifinals for two consecutive years.
