Anahat Singh Set for World Squash Championships

Chicago, USA – Starting May 9, the World Squash Championships 2024-2025 will take place in Chicago, and India’s Anahat Singh is ready to make her mark.

This prestigious event, scheduled from May 9 to 17, is expected to showcase top talent from around the globe, as noted by Olympics.com.

At just 17 years old, Anahat is emerging as a significant contender in the world of squash. Her recent performances have been impressive, particularly following her double bronze medal achievement at the Hangzhou 2023 Asian Games in China.

In the previous year, she claimed an impressive nine PSA Challenger titles, outpacing all other female competitors, and successfully defended her national titles in both senior and junior categories.

Continuing her winning streak into 2025, Anahat triumphed at the Indian Tour tournament in Chennai and secured the Indian Open title in Mumbai. Additionally, she contributed to India's bronze medal win at the Asian Junior Squash Team Championships in Hong Kong this year.

Thanks to her remarkable victories, Anahat currently holds the 62nd position in the world rankings, making her the top-ranked female squash player in India.

Having qualified for her first singles World Championships by winning the Asian Qualifiers in Malaysia last month, Anahat will face Marina Stefanoni from England, who is ranked 28th in the world, in her opening match.

A couple of victories could lead her to a potential clash with the reigning champion and world No. 1, Nouran Gohar from Egypt, in the third round.

While Anahat represents India in the women's draw, the men's category will see a robust Indian presence with Abhay Singh, Veer Chotrani, Ramit Tandon, and Velavan Senthilkumar competing.

Here’s the lineup for the Indian squad at the World Squash Championships 2025:

Men: Abhay Singh, Veer Chotrani, Ramit Tandon, Velavan Senthilkumar

Women: Anahat Singh

Veer Chotrani also qualified for the Chicago Championships through the Asian Qualifiers, while the other three players received direct entries.

Chotrani will begin his championship journey against England's 23rd-seed Declan James, while Ramit Tandon, seeded 30th, will face Japan's Ryunosuke Tsukue in his first match.

Abhay Singh, who previously partnered with Anahat to win a mixed doubles bronze at Hangzhou, will compete against Switzerland's Nicolas Mueller.

Velavan Senthilkumar faces a daunting task as he takes on reigning world champion Diego Elias from Peru.

In the men's singles rankings, Ramit Tandon stands as the highest-ranked Indian at No. 34, followed by Abhay at No. 38, Senthilkumar at No. 45, and Chotrani at No. 57.

Historically, India has yet to secure a medal in singles events at the World Squash Championships.

Notably, squash is set to debut at the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028.
