Strong Performances by Indian Players

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 20: In a thrilling day at the JSW Indian Open 2026, top seed Anahat Singh and unseeded player Tanvi Khanna advanced to the women's singles semifinals after securing victories in their quarterfinal matches.

Unfortunately, local favorite Joshna Chinappa faced elimination, suffering a 1-3 defeat against Egypt's Nadien El Hammamy, marking the only disappointment for Indian supporters on this day.

In another exciting quarterfinal, second seed Hana Moataz narrowly defeated eighth seed Yasshmita Jadishkumar from Malaysia in a gripping five-game match, winning 3-2 (11-8, 8-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-8).

The semifinals on Saturday will showcase an all-Indian clash between Anahat and Tanvi, while Moataz will compete against El Hammamy for a spot in the final.

Anahat demonstrated her title aspirations with a commanding 3-0 (11-2, 11-6, 11-4) victory over Malaysia's Sehveetrraa Kumar. She dominated the first game, winning 11-2 with relative ease. Although Kumar put up a stronger fight in the second game, Anahat's combination of power and strategic play allowed her to secure it 11-6.

The third game mirrored the previous ones, with Anahat controlling the pace and finishing with an impressive 11-4 win, ensuring her place in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Tanvi delivered an impressive performance, defeating fourth seed Ainaa Amani 3-1. She started strong, winning the first game 11-6, but Amani equalized by taking the second 11-7. Tanvi, however, regained her composure, winning the next two games 11-5 and 11-8 to secure her semifinal spot.

Earlier in the day, Joshna began her match against El Hammamy with confidence but struggled to counter the Egyptian's agile movements and precise cross-court shots. After a competitive start and a strong comeback in the second game, Joshna lost her momentum as El Hammamy intensified her game, winning the last two games to take the match.
