Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], September 4: Union Home Minister Amit Shah virtually inaugurated the World Archery Para Series 2026 in Ahmedabad on Friday. The event is set to take place from September 5 to 9.
During his address, Amit Shah emphasized that India's aspirations in sports extend beyond merely achieving high medal counts. He highlighted the importance of enhancing performance in significant international competitions like the Olympics and Asian Games.
Shah pointed out that India is striving to establish itself as a global center for modern sports infrastructure, training facilities, and sports equipment. Additionally, he mentioned the country's efforts to advance in sports engineering and medical science.
"Our aim is not solely to secure the most medals but to strengthen our presence in international events such as the Olympics, Asian Games, and Police Games," he stated.
He further explained that the training and coaching facilities at the sports center hosting the archery event will be developed to meet international standards. This center is expected to become a significant training hub for athletes from India and around the globe. Shah expressed confidence that India will soon lead in sports engineering and medical science, becoming a key medical center for sports injury treatment and rehabilitation.
Shah reiterated that India is on a path to becoming a major hub for modern sports infrastructure and training facilities, as well as a leading producer of sports equipment. "We are making continuous progress to position India as a global leader in sports," he added.
He acknowledged that champions are forged through relentless effort, commitment, and a strong desire to succeed. Shah welcomed athletes from 19 nations, underscoring India's philosophy of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,' which promotes the idea of the world as one family.
"Champions are not solely created through sports, practice, or coaching; they are built through victories and unwavering dedication. The essence of becoming a champion lies in the player's spirit, commitment, and determination to win. I wish the best of luck to all the competitors participating in this event. Athletes from 19 countries, including Bhutan, Bangladesh, China, Britain, France, Germany, Indonesia, and the USA, have gathered in India for this competition. You are in a nation that embodies the principle of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,' where the entire world is viewed as one family," Shah remarked.
Shah concluded by stating that the World Para Archery competition, taking place from September 5 to 9, will be a memorable experience for both the athletes and the city of Ahmedabad, with over 108 para athletes from 19 countries participating.
