A Remarkable Achievement in Athletics

In a proud moment for Indian athletics, 22-year-old Amandeep Kaur secured a gold medal in the 800-meter race and a bronze in the 1500-meter event at the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze, taking place at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

“Being the only girl from Punjab to win two medals feels like a dream come true. My second race was just half an hour after my first 800-meter run, and I can hardly express my joy,” Amandeep shared over the phone.

She achieved an impressive time of 2:04.31 minutes in the 800m, earning her the top spot on the podium. In the 1500m, she showcased remarkable endurance, finishing in 4:27.14 minutes to claim third place.

Amandeep's journey is one of resilience and determination. Hailing from a modest background, with her father working as a laborer and her mother as a domestic worker, she has faced significant financial challenges to reach this level.

Her coach, Deepak Kumar from Dasuya, expressed immense pride in her accomplishments. Amandeep, who is from Moga, began training with Kumar two years ago.

“I am aware of her struggles. Coming from a financially constrained family means we often have to gather resources for her to compete,” Kumar stated. “However, over the last two years, I have witnessed her evolution into a world-class athlete. Her commitment and effort are truly commendable. We are all incredibly proud of her,” he added.

Amandeep’s triumph not only underscores her personal dedication but also highlights the potential of young athletes from underprivileged backgrounds. “With the right support and training, she can achieve great things. She is a star in the making,” Kumar concluded.
