Fokina Reflects on His Performance
'Considered Withdrawing': Fokina
Post-match, Fokina admitted he contemplated retiring during the match but chose to persevere, knowing he had time to adjust to the conditions before his next match. "I'm from Hamburg, and I wasn't able to acclimatize properly. The temperature was 22 degrees higher than I'm used to. Competing against a player of Dzumhur's caliber is challenging, requiring me to utilize every aspect of my game. I had to adapt and push through. At one point, I thought about withdrawing, but I reminded myself it was just the first round. I decided to give it my all and see what happens, hoping he might cramp or falter," Fokina explained.
Looking ahead, Fokina is set to face Thiago Agustin Tirante in the next round and expressed his readiness for the challenge. "Today was incredibly tough. I didn't anticipate the heat would be so intense, and I struggled physically. I had to adjust my strategy mid-match. Fortunately, I managed to hit a few winners and am thankful for the outcome. Recovery is my priority now, and I plan to approach my next match as if it's my first, aiming to be at full strength," he stated to the media.
