Exciting Prospects for Tennis Stars

Seoul [South Korea], January 9: Rising tennis stars Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, currently ranked first and second in the world, expressed their thoughts on the possibility of teaming up for doubles matches. Sinner remarked, "It would be enjoyable and could definitely happen."

As they prepare for an exhibition match in South Korea this Saturday, the two athletes, who each claimed two Grand Slam titles last year, are seen as the new faces of tennis, marking a shift from the era dominated by legends Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. When asked about the chance of playing together on the same side of the net, Sinner shared his enthusiasm, stating, "I think it would be fun to share the court in a different way, at least once. Maybe this year or next year — why not? It could happen."

Alcaraz acknowledged that the idea of partnering up has crossed their minds, but noted that their commitments as singles players make it challenging to fit in doubles matches. He mentioned, "We have thought about it once or twice, but we are singles players and play many tournaments, so adding doubles is tough. Still, it would be nice to do it at least once."

On the topic of their potential collaboration, Alcaraz humorously added, "I would play with the forehand, and he would take the backhand."

Since Nadal's retirement, Alcaraz has taken on the mantle of the next Spanish tennis star, boasting six Grand Slam titles and two year-end number one finishes, indicating he is on a promising path. Their impressive performances have led to comparisons with the legendary 'Big Three' of tennis.

However, Sinner emphasized that while they share a strong rivalry, it is not fair to compare their achievements to those of past legends. Both players have consistently distanced themselves from such comparisons. Sinner concluded, "We do not want to be compared to the Big Three. We are focused on building our own careers. There are many exceptional players, and if we lower our level even slightly, they will surpass us. Having a rival like this motivates me to improve."
