Akash Singh's Celebration Raises Eyebrows

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been vocal about wanting to eliminate the controversial 'notebook' celebration, yet it has resurfaced once more. During a match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Lucknow Super Giants' left-arm pacer Akash Singh reignited the debate by performing the now-infamous celebration after dismissing Gujarat Titans' star player Jos Buttler.

Returning to the field in the 10th over after a painful hit from a powerful drive by Shubman Gill in the 6th, Akash made an immediate impact. He bowled a clever slower ball that caught Buttler off guard, sending the former England captain's stumps flying. Given Buttler's ability to change the game, his wicket was pivotal in this high-scoring encounter, prompting jubilant celebrations from the LSG team.

However, Akash's choice of celebration drew criticism. In what seemed to be a tribute to teammate Digvesh Singh Rathi, he looked towards the dugout and mimicked the controversial notebook celebration. This act, popularized by Digvesh, had previously led to his suspension by the BCCI after multiple warnings and fines, along with a heated exchange with Abhishek Sharma.

Digvesh's antics had already breached the IPL Code of Conduct, resulting in strict disciplinary measures. Now, Akash Singh's actions have sparked fresh discussions regarding the league's stance on celebratory conduct. Despite achieving respectable bowling figures of 1/29 in 3.1 overs, all eyes were on his behavior following the wicket.

The IPL's official social media accounts quickly highlighted the incident, indicating that it had not gone unnoticed. Whether the league or the BCCI will impose any formal reprimands or disciplinary actions remains to be seen, but it is clear that the notebook celebration continues to thrive, despite previous crackdowns.
