Throughout his career, he has participated in 85 Test matches, accumulating a total of 5,077 runs, which includes 12 centuries and 26 half-centuries. At 37 years old, it has been a while since Rahane last appeared in a Test match, with his most recent game taking place in 2023.
In a conversation with Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton on Sky Sports, Rahane stated, "I still want to play Test cricket." He expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "I’m really passionate about playing Test cricket. I’m enjoying my cricket at the moment."
Rahane mentioned that he is currently in a training phase, having brought along his trainers and workout gear to maintain his fitness. With the domestic season approaching, he is focused on preparing for the upcoming challenges.
He emphasized the importance of concentrating on what he can control, noting, "I tried to have conversations with the selectors, but as a player, I cannot control everything. I received no response. All I can do is keep playing cricket, enjoy the game, and give my best every time. My love for Test cricket and red-ball cricket drives me forward."
After losing his spot in the Indian Test squad, Rahane led Mumbai to two consecutive victories in the Ranji Trophy, securing their 42nd title in the 2023-24 season and finishing as runners-up in 2024-25.
