A Remarkable Achievement in Shooting
Doha: Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar from India clinched a silver medal in the 50m rifle 3 positions event during his debut at the ISSF World Cup Final, marking a significant milestone in his shooting career.
The Czech Republic's Jiri Privratsky topped the final with a score of 414.2 in the newly introduced ISSF format of 40 shots, finishing just 0.9 points ahead of Tomar. The bronze medal was secured by Olympic champion Liu Yukun.
On this day, two Indian shooters, Sift Kaur Samra in the women's 3P and Manu Bhaker in the women's 25m pistol, did not progress past the qualification rounds. Manu placed ninth with a score of 581, while Sift finished tenth with 584.
Aishwary, who is the reigning Asian champion and a former junior world champion, also earned a silver medal at the World Championship last month.
In the qualification round, Aishwary scored 595, placing him second, just behind China's Tian Jiaming, who set a world record with a score of 598.
The top eight included three Chinese shooters, along with Hungarian star Istvan Peni and Norwegian athlete Jon-Hermann Hegg.
Aishwary started strong, finishing fourth in the first kneeling position with a score of 102.8 after ten shots. He then surged to second place during the prone position with impressive scores of 52.9 and 52.
Privratsky, who was leading by 3.3 points, maintained his advantage while Liu, the Olympic champion, held third place. Aishwary closed the gap to 1.5 points after ten shots, and then to 0.5 points after the 31st shot as Privratsky struggled to stay within the 10-ring.
In the bronze match, Romain Aufrere, a young French shooter, lost to the Olympic champion as Privratsky regained a 0.5-point lead after scoring two high 10s.
Privratsky ultimately secured gold, marking his third ISSF gold medal of the year, as Aishwary shot a 10.1 compared to Privratsky's 10.3, finishing just 0.3 points behind after the final two shots.
